The weather is finally starting to break, leaving few excuses to forgo physical activity. While we all have busy schedules, small changes to our daily routines can ensure we get plenty of exercise and fresh air, specifically during these warmer months. Here are a few ways you can get fit for free and enjoy the outdoors this Spring and Summer.
Hang Up Your Car Keys
Rather than constantly being behind the wheel of your car, make a conscious effort to walk or bike around town. You will maximize your time outdoors and burn calories while still getting all of your errands done. If you don’t live in a walkable town, park in the back of the lot at the store or office to get in a few extra steps. They can definitely add up.
Memberships, personal training sessions and group fitness classes can get pricy. Put some extra money in your pocket this summer by taking your workouts outside. There are plenty of things you can do to train sans gym equipment. On days when the weather doesn’t permit an outdoor sweat sesh, take to YouTube. Countless workoutsare right at your fingertips, all you need is a WiFi signal.
Walk at Work
Whether you need a brain break or you’re on your lunch, take time during your work day to get moving outside. Walking alone, or even with a co-worker, will help you to relax and refocus. It will also give you a jolt of energy to power through the rest of your day.
Do Your Own Yard Work
While it’s tempting to hire professionals to do you yard work, doing it on your own forces you to get out of the house and get moving. If there’s more work than one person can handle, make it a team effort by involving your family.
Of course, portion control will only help accelerate your results. Be sure to eat a colorful assortment of fruits and vegetables daily, and be mindful of the quality and quantity of carbohydrates you consume. A better body is within reach, but if you want it you're going to have to work for it!
