5 Ways to Love Yourself On Valentine's Day

With Valentine's Day looming, our news feeds are currently bombarded with a slew of apparel, quotes, and events targeting singles. While we appreciate the creativity and humor that goes into "Singles Awareness Day", it has us wondering - what's wrong with being alone?

According to an article in the Huffington Post, spending time alone is actually good for you. It helps clear your mind and even makes you more creative. On top of that, it gives you the opportunity to pick and choose what you want to do without compromise. If you ask us, that doesn't sound too shabby.

As are many things in life, the single life is likely only temporary. So why not enjoy it? While everyone else is out trying to live up to society's expectations this Valentine's Day, here are a few fun things you can do to show yourself some love!

Go See a Movie

You can catch a flick and throw down a bucket of popcorn for under twenty bucks. In going alone, you'll get to see something you actually want to see - no negotiations necessary. Oh, and you won't have to share your popcorn, either.

Hit a New Workout Class

Life gets so busy that even our workouts can become routine (or non-existent). Switch it up by trying something new on Valentine's Day, maybe even in a different community. Who knows, you could potentially meet a new friend... or lover? Stranger things have happened.

Plan a Spa Day

A day at the spa always does the body good. A 60-minute massage is about the same price as a dozen roses these days, and we know which one we'd rather have. If you've got some extra money to spare, treat yourself to a mani/pedi, too. Your body will thank you for it.

Find an organization that could benefit from a few hours of your time, or go snuggle with some adorable animals at the shelter. Trust us when we say that you'll get more out of it than you'll give.

Try a New Recipe

Valentine's Day is a great day to put one of those Pinterest recipes you've been hoarding to the test. Pick up the ingredients, turn up Spotify, and get to cooking. You'll learn something new and have fun in the process! If you completely screw it up, there's always Chipotle.
